Skilled Workers
The Federal Skilled Worker visa is designed for individuals who have the qualifications, skills or experiences to fill Canada's skill shortages and contribute to the Canadian economy. Up to 100,000 Skilled Worker Visas will be made available between 2009 and 2010.
Applicants to the Federal Skilled Worker visa demonstrate that they meet the minimum visa requirements including having work experience in a designated occupation, a Canadian job offer, or be a foreign worker or student currently living in Canada. In addition, applicants must meet the pass mark on a points-based assessment. Successful applicants will obtain Canadian permanent residence, which will entitle them to live and work in Canada with few restrictions. Canadian permanent residents may also be eligible for Canadian citizenship.

Investors
The
Federal Immigrant Investor Program seeks to attract experienced business people
to Canada to support the development of the Canadian economy.
To be qualified, the business person must:
- have at least two (2) years of business management experience
- have a minimum net worth of CDN$800,000 obtained legally;
- make a 5-year CDN$400,000 investment.
Business Management Experience
Business Management Experience may have been acquired through one of the three following situations:
- Two one-year
periods in the last five years of experience in the management and the control
of a percentage of equity of a business;
The percentage of the equity
can be:
- 100% of the sole proprietorship controlled by the main applicant, his/her spouse or common law partner;
- A percentage of the issued and outstanding voting of the capital stock of the corporation controlled by the main applicant, his/her spouse or common law partner;
- A percentage of the profit or loss of the partnership or joint-venture to which the main applicant, his/her spouse or common law partner is entitled.
- Two one-year periods of experience in the management of at least five full-time employees per year within the last five years;
- A combination of a one-year period of experience as described in paragraph 1 and a one-year period of experience as described in paragraph 2.
