Why work in Canada?

Canada is considered one of the most desirable countries to work in.  The high wages, standard of living and working conditions are among the best in the world.  In addition, the Canadian live-in Caregiver program allows qualified caregivers to work in Canada for up to three years.  After completing two years of employment, the caregiver is eligible to apply for permanent residency in Canada.  If approved, this allows the caregiver to live and work in Canada permanently and to sponsor family members into Canada as well. More information can be found on the government of Canada’s website at http://www.hrsdc.gc.ca/eng/workplaceskills/foreign_workers/lcpdir/lcpone.shtml .

Typical live-in caregivers work 44 hours per week, with either 1.5 or 2 days off – depending upon the arrangement made with the employer.  If you work more hours than this, you will be compensated at 1.5 times your hourly wage.  Wages for caregiver are determined by provincial governments.  The current hourly wages in Western Canada range from $8.00 - $10.00 per hour before deductions. Caregivers are entitled to at least two weeks paid vacation each year, as well as free medical coverage. All Live-in Caregivers (caregivers for children, seniors or disabled persons live in their employers homes, and are given a private furnished room. Meals are provided in the home.  A cost for room and board is deducted from your gross wages.
