Live-in Nannies
Nannies
Balancing the needs of children with the demands of careers is a challenge for most parents. The solution involves the help of others, either at a personal or institutional level.  We believe raising your children in their own home under the loving care of a qualified nanny is your best choice.
Your nanny must live in your home and be provided with a furnished bedroom of their own. Most employers deduct from their pay an amount prescribed by the province for room and board. The allowable amount in Alberta is currently $336 per month, while in BC it is $325 per month, and $250 in Saskatchewan.Â
Nannies normally work 44 hours per week on a scheduled agreed to by yourself and your nanny. If you wish your nanny to work extra hours, you can make this arrangement together as required. Working conditions including overtime pay are governed by the same employment standards as for any other employee in the province.
Your nanny’s first priority is the care of your children, and you can expect them to focus their efforts on this. However, depending on your family’s needs, they are often happy to assist with other things including meal planning and preparation, light housekeeping, and other household duties.Â
Normally each family will let the nanny know the amount of interaction desired with the nanny when the parents are at home.  Most adults value their private time, and like to spend some time alone with their children.  Your nanny will understand this, and will be as inconspicuous as you wish when the family is together.
Your nanny will probably apply for permanent residency in Canada someday, and you may be called upon to provide a reference for them. Naturally, your good opinion will be very important to them, so they will want to do their very best for your family. We are aware that this factor could lead to a bad employer taking unfair advantage of a nanny. To avoid that type of situation, we are careful to place our nannies with good families only.
We believe that there is no more important job than that of caring for our children. Our nannies are proud to occupy this position of trust within the families they assist, and My Home Caregivers is equally proud to provide these caregivers to our clients.
